This is an interesting topic: I read so widely and eclectically (I think) that sometimes its hard to discern a pattern in my reading habits. And sometimes when I feel that there is a pattern, I consciously choose to read outside the pattern... But there are certainly some authors who draw me. So lets start there.

Edgedancer, Brandon Sanderson
Sanderson's Stormlight Archive and the wider Cosmere is a fabulous creation interweaving various worlds into a universe with a coherent and cohesive magic system... if magic be the right word for the investiture process which borders on the scientific. It is certainly more precise in application than most magical powers in fantasy. As a rule,… Continue reading Edgedancer, Brandon Sanderson
30 Day Book Challenge: Day 17!
I find this a very broad category today; A book with a person's name in the title (real or fictional). I mean in every genre, there are a wealth of books containing (or perhaps consisting of solely) the name of the characters: every one of the Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Artemis Fowl series in Young… Continue reading 30 Day Book Challenge: Day 17!
30 Day Book Challenge: Day Eight!
So, week two and day eight roll around and we're still going... And the challenge today is to name A series everyone should read. Now I struggle with this concept. Why should everyone read the same thing? Why would one series - which is a massive investment of time - be something everyone should read? Why should anyone read… Continue reading 30 Day Book Challenge: Day Eight!

Book Haul Time! It's a busy busy time at work - yet again! Exam marking and observations and stress. Much that gets in the way of reading! But equally much that reading can rescue you from! Nothing like escaping from that irksome stress with the pleasures of listening to George Washington Black's escape from slavery… Continue reading Regular Reading Update
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, Susanna Clarke
Fantasy is my (not so) secret (not so) guilty pleasure in reading. Fantasy introduced me to reading through The Hobbit and Tolkien. Fantasy was my escape from teenage tedium ... my family was far too middle class to have angst! And I still enjoy a healthy dollop of fantasy, as readers of this blog will… Continue reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, Susanna Clarke
Alloy Of Law, Brandon Sanderson
I was torn between three and four stars on this but came to the view that having read through it in 4 days it was a four, but I do have reservations about this book. It is without doubt a great read, fun enjoyable and lighthearted. It evokes the atmosphere of the 1800s in the… Continue reading Alloy Of Law, Brandon Sanderson
