Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Wishes

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Previous Top Ten Tuesday Topics

This is Jana’s twice-yearly invitation to us to share our Amazon wishlists and show the books that we would love to own – with the opportunity to jump around each others’ links to make one or two people’s wishes come true.

I shall just post my list here and edge away slowly!

My Amazon Wishlist

Please do not feel any obligation…

Favourite Books I’d Love a Physical Copy Of

Series I’d Love The Next Book In

There seems to be a lot of science fiction in this part of the list…

  • Lords of Uncreation, Adrian Tchaikovsky
  • A Desolation Called Peace, Arkady Martine,
  • Record of a Spaceborn Few, Becky Chambers
  • The Galaxy and the Ground Within, Becky Chambers
  • Prayer for the Crown Shy, Becky Chambers

And by way of contrast, a realistic police procedural:

  • Exiles, Jane Harper

New Books / Authors / Series I Am Keen To Try

  • The Happy Couple, Naoise Dolan – I loved her previous novel Exciting Times and hope this will match it
  • The Three Graces, Amanda Craig
  • Babel, R. F. Kuang
  • Yellowface, Rebecca F. Kuang
  • Lessons in Chemistry, Bonnie Garmus – so many people have recommended this to me…
  • Children of Time, Adrian Tchaikovsky – I’ve enjoyed one sci-fi space opera series by him, so this seems like a good bet
  • Weyward, Emilia Hart – liked the blurb – and the punning title and feel in the mood for something Gothic to chill me in this hot weather
  • The Whispering Muse, Laura Purcell – again, love the gothic thrill that Purcell can produce
  • Our Hideous Progeny, C. E. McGill – liked the cover!
  • The Memory of Animals, Claire Fuller – I’ve come across her name before with Unsettled Ground but never actually read it… but the blurb on this one sounds thrilling!

Because It’s Going To Win All The Book Prizes This Year

Demon Copperhead, Barbara Kingsolver

Demon’s story begins with his traumatic birth to a single mother in a single-wide trailer, looking ‘like a little blue prizefighter.’ For the life ahead of him he would need all of that fighting spirit, along with buckets of charm, a quick wit, and some unexpected talents, legal and otherwise.

In the southern Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, poverty and addiction aren’t ideas. They’re as natural as the grass grows. For Demon, born on the wrong side of luck, the affection and safety he craves is as remote as the ocean he dreams of seeing one day. The wonder is in how far he’s willing to travel to try and get there.

If I were to narrow this list down to the three I would be most excited to have a physical copy of, I would say:

  • Shy by Max Porter because I have adored everything by him I have read, and I am yet to read Shy.
  • The Happy Couple by Naoise Dolan, because of how mush I enjoyed her previous book too – it was witty, bitingly satirical and true – she also writes very articulately in other media about her own neurodiversity
  • The Memory of Animals, Claire Fuller
  • Babel, R. F. Kuang

But to eb hoenst I would be delighted by anything on this list, or the stationary or cups that always also linger on my Amazon Wishlists! I have to say the Starry Night bullet journal looks so cool: black pages and white ink!

I shall look forward to browsing your lists, and hoping to grant one or two as I go – and no doubt swell my own wishlist and TBR list as I do so!

  1. Another Susanna Clarke Fan! 🙂 I haven’t tried Max Porter’s work before, but seeing you’ve recommended it so many times, I must check those out. And the mention of Purcell and Weyward now makes me want to pick up some Gothic lit too.

  2. I got two of these from the publisher via NetGalley for review: “Weyward” (which I loved) and “The Memory of Animals” (which I admired but didn’t love). Unfortunately I know of no way to share these.
I also would LOVE to get a digital copy of Laura Purcell’s “The Whispering Muse” which almost made my Top Ten Tuesday post but I had to limit myself to ten.

  3. I love how you divided up your wishlist and also narrowed it down! It’s so fun to see which books mean the most to other people 🙂
